Vista Eye Care was founded on the principle of preventative eye care.  A wide variety of eye diseases including macular degeneration, corneal disease, retinal disease, glaucoma, and cataracts can sometimes affect the health of the eye even before they are noticed visually by the patient.  Regular eye care allows us to diagnose these issues early, preventing unnecessary loss of vision.  Our doctors and care team are dedicated to preventing eye disease before it starts.

Macular degeneration is a terrible disease that robs the patient of the ability to use their central vision.  Our central vision is the part of our visual field that allows for recognition of faces, reading, and the ability to see 20/20 on the letter chart.  Macular degeneration can be prevented by limiting the amount of ultraviolet and blue light that reach the retina.  Modern lens coatings, such as Crizal Prevencia, can help reduce the amount of blue light that reaches the macula.  Our office uses state-of-the-art instrumentation to measure our patients’ macular pigment density (MPOD).  A lower MPOD score is associated with a greater occurrence of the disease, and if your score is low, it is important to modify your diet to raise your MPOD and reduce your chances of getting macular degeneration.

Also of concern for patients is glaucoma, a blinding eye disease that affects the patient’s peripheral vision.  Early detection of glaucoma is also necessary to prevent vision loss.  Often times, glaucoma is managed relatively easily with topical medications.  Glaucoma doesn’t always have symptoms, and because it can occur in patients of any age, we recommend all patients be seen yearly.

Early life eye care is crucial to prevent eye disease such as amblyopia (“lazy eye”).  We recommend that kids be seen for their first eye exam at 6-12 months of age.  This early life eye exam is easy on the child, and is a great way to make sure that the child’s visual system is well-positioned to develop normally.  With an early-life eye exam for your child, there is no need to wait until a problem develops, and starts affecting your child’s vision, before it is addressed.

Our eye doctors are dedicated to preventing eye disease, and use the latest technologies to determine your long-term risks.  Why wait until an eye disease is affecting your comfort or vision?  Please call us today at (303) 450-2020 to schedule your yearly eye check-up, or to schedule your family’s eye exams.  Feel free to use the link below to schedule online:
